E-invoicing for freelancers and creators

Electronic invoicing between businesses and freelancers will be mandatory in Spain. Here's what it is, when it starts and how to issue e-invoices effortlessly with Bicru.

Frictionless e-invoicing

Structured formats

Forget loose PDFs: the e-invoice requires structured formats (Facturae, UBL, CII). Bicru generates your invoices ready for the new standard.

Traceable payment statuses

The new rules require reporting invoice statuses. With Bicru's bank connection you know which invoices are paid without lifting a finger.

Verifactu compatible

E-invoicing and Verifactu are different but related obligations. Bicru solves both in the same platform.

Taxes calculated

VAT, IRPF and IGIC calculated automatically on every invoice based on your situation and your client's.

What is the mandatory e-invoice?

The Create and Grow Law (Law 18/2022) established that all companies and freelancers must issue and receive electronic invoices in their operations with other businesses (B2B). A PDF by email is not enough: they must be invoices in structured formats (such as Facturae or UBL) exchanged through platforms and the AEAT's public solution. The goal is to reduce late payments and digitalize business activity: invoices will carry status information (accepted, rejected, paid) to make real payment terms visible.

When does it come into force?

The implementing regulation was approved with Royal Decree 238/2026 (Official Gazette, March 31, 2026), and the calendar depends on a Ministerial Order that starts the countdown: • 12 months after the Order: mandatory for companies and freelancers billing over €8 million a year. • 24 months after: for everyone else, which includes the vast majority of content creators. In practice, if you are a creator you will likely need to issue B2B e-invoices during 2028. It sounds far away, but invoicing with a prepared tool today saves you a last-minute migration.

E-invoice vs. Verifactu: not the same thing

This is the most common confusion. Verifactu (RD 1007/2023) regulates how your invoicing software must work: tamper-proof records, digital fingerprint, QR code and AEAT reporting. The Create and Grow Law e-invoice regulates the invoice format and how it is exchanged with your client. They have different calendars and obligations, but both are met in the same place: your invoicing software. That's why it pays to choose one that solves both.

How Bicru helps

With Bicru your invoices are born digital from day one: they are generated from your brand agreements, with taxes calculated, automatic numbering and full traceability of their status thanks to your bank connection. When the obligation reaches you, you won't need to switch tools or migrate data: you will already be invoicing in the right format.
